How to clean fingerprint powder off of your belongings:

1. Use a dry paper towel to remove as much excess as possible.

2. Use a solution of dish soap and water to remove any more loose powder. This will not, however, remove all of the powder.

3. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser - I swear these things are really magic! It took all of the remaining residue off.

WARNING: This powder gets on EVERYTHING! Beware of your clothing while trying to clean it off.

While we were in Rocky Point, we found lots of fun sea creatures! Justin was a pro at finding them. Here are a few of the really good ones that he found.

Here is a big crab that he found. It's hard to see how big it is, but you guys know the size of those shells!

Look closely at this picture. Ian is holding a small crab that Justin found. Be careful though, because crabs pinch! (As Ian discovered just as this picture was being taken!)

Last of all is the octopus. Justin found this lying in the sand, and we moved him to a pool of water. Ignore the manic laughing in the background. It is not me. I repeat, it is not me!

Chihuly at the Deseret Botalical Garden

We went and saw the Chihuly displays at the Botanical Garden today for Justin's birthday. It was so cool. They had the glass sculptures among all of the desert plants. Some of the sculptures looked like they were really part of the landscape. We were there as the sun was getting low in the sky, and it was really beautiful!

Anne has a "cool" look that she gets when she wears her sunglasses. We try to get her to smile, but she just keeps her "cool face" on.

Yesterday was not a good day for Annie. She was very cranky, and everything that happened sent her into a fit of tears. Needless to say, by the end of the day, I was exhausted. On top of that, I hadn't made it to the grocery store like I needed to. So, we decided to get take-out for dinner instead. As we were leaving, we asked Annie, "Should we go get some bad food, or good food?" She answered back, "Bad food." Then when we pulled up to the restaurant, she again said, "bad food!" Here is a picture of Annie in all her ornery glory yesterday.

3. Laundry issue again...Forgetting to put a load of laundry into the dryer, and having to wash it again so it doesn't stink anymore.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that until a few weeks ago, I had never actually mowed a lawn. Growing up, my dad wouldn't let us mow the lawn, because he was afraid we'd break either his lawn mower or a few sprinklers. After getting married, Justin has always done the mowing. Justin's allergies have been bothering him while mowing , so I offered to take over mowing duties. I've done it a few times now, and have to admit that I kind of enjoy it! Justin of course had to take pictures of my first lawn mowing experience!

I had a "proud mommy moment" at church today. During Sacrament Meeting, Anne took her Elmo doll and did the following:

Put Elmo on a chair and said, "Time-out, one minute." Then she walked away from him. A few seconds later, she went back, knelt down in front of him and said, "Time-out, babble....babble..." Then picked him up and gave him a hug and a kiss.

Last weekend Justin and I went to Front Sight for a birthday party for Dave, Justin's dad. We took a defensive handgun course. It was a lot of fun, but also very educational. I would recommend it to anyone who plans on having a gun in the house. The below picture was on the last day, just before we left. Justin had already taken his gun off and put it away, so that is why I look so much cooler than he does with a gun on my hip!

Annie got to spend the weekend with Grandma and Grandpa. She was thoroughly spoiled, and had a great time with them! Thanks Mom and Dad!

Crazy AZ Weather!

Last night we had the biggest storm that I've ever been in! We had winds up to 100 mph and 2" of rain. There was so much lightning, it seemed like strobe lights. Along with the lightning was a steady rumble of thunder. Our power was out from about 9:30 pm until about 1:30 am. We have some friends that live just up the street whose power is still out over 24 hrs. later! Luckily there has only been 1 serious injury reported and no deaths. But driving around and seeing the damage is pretty crazy! Here is the worst that we saw.

Annie slept right through it. She woke up once, but the storm had calmed by then, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the storm that woke her. It was pretty crazy, but we survived!

A Day of Fun in the Sun!

So we've moved! It's only a few blocks from where we were living before, but it's great! We're in a house now, and we have a little yard. We bought a little pool and we were given a slide by Travis and Cassity (Thank you!). Put them together, and you get TONS of fun in the sun!

We had Lucy, Anne's friend over to play the other day. They had WAY too much fun! I think that the pool the the best place to eat popsicles! (Absolutely no clean up :)

Raisins are best when shared with a friend.

And who knew that laundry baskets could provide so much fun!

What Anne has been up to

Anne loves yogurt. She doesn't really like to drink milk, so we try to get dairy into her diet in other ways. Yogurt, cheese and cottage cheese are her favorites. She can't get enough! Eating at our house is a messy affair, but Annie thinks that it is serious business!

The other day Anne fell down while running around with her sippy cup. Her little lip hit right on the cup. She got a little bloody nose, and a bruise. I thought it looked like she had a little baby mustache :)

As we are getting ready to move on Friday, I've been packing up the house. Anne rediscovered her baby bath tub and has been having a lot of fun lounging in it. She has fallen in love with the hammock that goes in it, and even insisted that she take her nap with it. She took it to bed with her and slept on top of it!

I had one load of laundry left over from last week that I hadn't folded yet. Tuesday night I finally got around to folding it. I pick up a pair of Justin's pants and shook them out, and I saw something fly out of them and scurry across the floor. I of course screamed, them started laughing hysterically when I realized what it was! Justin came running into the room yelling, "What's wrong!" I managed to tell him what happened through my laughing. See picture below to see what jumped out of Justin's pants!

Disney Cruise

I know, I've been MIA again. Life got a little bit interesting for a while, but I think that things are settling down now. We just got back this afternoon from a Disney Cruise with my family. We had TONS of fun! Following are LOTS of pictures of our trip. Good luck getting through them, and congratulations if you do! I started out with about 50 photos I wanted to post, and narrowed it down to these!

Anne didn't like her life vest very much. We had to get all dressed in them for a safety drill before we could set sail.

We took a cruise to Lands End, and then went to a restaurant with a great view!

Welcome to Mazatlan! Anne stayed on the ship in the nursery and with Grandma while Justin and I went on a fun tour. After we saw how they make adobe bricks, this cute little boy was asking everyone for money :)

We visited several little towns outside of Mazatlan. They had very old houses, some of them hundreds of years old. They were very interesting old towns!

We also visited a family furniture shop. This man is weaving baskets. He is 75 years old, and has been weaving since he was 15 years old!

Desert Botanical Garden

We visited the Desert Botanical Garden last week. It was so beautiful and peaceful! I could just wander there for hours!

They have a butterfly pavilion. There were literally thousands of butterflies in there. They were flying everywhere and were so pretty.

Annie thinks she is a very big girl, and is very independent. She just took off on this path all by herself, like she knew exactly where she was going!

This was a giant sculpture. I think it was supposed to be like a nest. There were several "rooms" to wander through.

Water Fun!

There is an outdoor shopping center just a few miles from us, and there is a little water area in the middle of it. The other night, we took Anne there and let her play in the water. She LOVED it! She was so wound up and excited, running from one fountain to the next. I kept trying to get in front of her so we would have her face on the video, but she was just all over the place!

A while ago we bought a TV stand with locks, so Annie wouldn't be able to get into all of the "electronic stuff" that her daddy has all set up. She has seen us get into it so many times, she decided to give it a try herself. I was doing dishes, and looked over to see her accomplish her new trick! I let her do it just long enough to snap a few pictures, then the keys promptly went out of reach! Keep in mind I didn't help at all while taking these pictures.

Anne loves doggies. She has several doggie stuffed animals, and if she ever sees one or hears anyone talking about them, she starts barking. There are two doggies in particular that she loves the very most. She sleeps with them every night, and will snuggle one close to her while she falls asleep. This morning, she insisted on bringing them both out of her crib with her, and she had a hard time giving them up to eat breakfast. Even in her high chair, she was still clinging to them both! Justin got the camera and snapped a few pictures.

Last week we had Wes stay with us for a few days. Anne was a bit leery of him at first, but before he left she warmed up to him. She even brought him a book for him to read to her.
As luck would have it, the Welker boys were on Spring Break that same week, so we were able to have Wes, the Welkers, Travis and David over for a BBQ on Friday. It was so much fun to have family over!

I don't know if anyone is still checking this, as I haven't been posting. I just took a little break.
Yesterday Anne and I started swimming lessons! Anne had so much fun! She was a little bit shy for about 2 minutes, then she turned into quite the little fish! She was the cutest and most aggressive baby in the bunch. She happily participated in all of the games, and had just a wonderful time!
I've got her signed up for a bunch of fun classes. We start an art class on friday! I'll be sure to take my camera so I can share the fun!

Justin is doing great. If you check his blog, then you know that he went to San Francisco on a field trip with his school class. He had a great time and came home telling me that he wants to live there. I'm not all that enthusiastic about it, and he has calmed a bit too.

I visited Utah while he was gone. It was so nice. I loved visiting family. The first day I got there, Anne and I did some stroller walking. It was so nice to stroll along a non-city street. It just reaffirmed that I don't want to live in a big city forever. Anne had a lot of fun on our trip, though she somehow came down with quite the tummy bug. We had to cancel our flight home, and ended up staying an extra day so she could get better. We made it home the next day, but it actually took Anne 3 days to get better! She was sure miserable, but ever since she got better, she has been so happy! It's like she knows how good she feels since she felt so awful while she was sick!

Our Visit to the Zoo

On Thursday we visited the Phoenix Zoo. We had a lot of fun!

Of all the exotic animals to see, Anne's favorite part was:

She also enjoyed chasing the ducks.

This was Justin's favorite part. (Aside from the spider monkey) The Anteater! We even got to see him stick his tongue out, but we were too slow to get it on camera.

This was my favorite part. The tortoise! I've never seen one of these in real life before. It was fun because we got there just as they were being fed, so we got to watch them munch away on their lunch!And here we are with Flat Stanley. He has been visiting with us, and we thought he would have fun going to the zoo. We've had fun with him, and we will miss him when he goes back to Hayley.

Justin is Awesome! (Yes, I'm Bragging!)

I just want to brag about my husband for a moment. Justin is just finishing up his first semester at ASU, and it's ending quite well.

He presented his final project for Studio on Friday. The reviewers were very complementary, in fact they didn't have any negative comments! One of the reviewers was from an architecture firm here in Phoenix called Smith Group. They have a summer internship program for students. We are hoping that this will give him a leg up!
The students all voted on the project that they thought was the best, and Justin was voted first place!On top of that, in his Structures class, they had to design a sports venue. Justin designed a building for curling. He presented about 2 weeks ago. All of the Students and all of the Faculty voted on who's project they thought was the best. Who ever the students voted for got a $50 gift certificate, and who ever the faculty voted for got a $500 scholarship. Justin won the scholarship! So, we have been celebrating at our house!

CONGRATULATIONS JUSTIN!!!

Mesa Temple Christmas Lights

We went and saw the lights at the Mesa Temple on Sunday night. It was so pretty!

It was a little bit chilly only about 58 degrees:-) so we had to make sure Anne was all bundled up! She was very snuggly in her carrier next to mama. She also LOVED looking at all of the lights!

Anne has started walking. When she thinks about it too hard, she gets nervous, but when she doesn't think about it, she does great! She doesn't walk long distances yet, but she's going farther and farther every day.

Visit from Grandma and Grandpa G

Last week we had Grandma and Grandpa G for a visit. It was so nice to see them, and we had a ton of fun. We visited the Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson. It was a really nice day weather wise, so it was a lot of fun! Here are a few pictures from our visit.

Anne loved having Grandma around to give her lots of attention. She was hardly cranky at all when Grandma was around.
By the end of the trip, Anne was so tired. She normally won't sleep anywhere but in her crib or in my arms, so the fact that she fell asleep in her stroller says a lot.

We really loved to have my Mom & Dad here to visit. Anyone that would like to visit is always welcome!

Four Years

What is it about Babies?

Why do babies love "kid" music? We have a few CD's that are kids music, and Anne loves them! They always make her stop crying in the car. Not just any music will do, it has to be "kids" music.

Why is it that they have all of these colorful, fun, noisy toys but the cardboard center of the paper towels is still the favorite?

Why do they beg and beg to be picked up, but once you pick them up, they wiggle to get down and play?

What Can Mommy Make with Tights?

Since Anne has been trying to crawl, her poor little knees have been getting raw. Our carpet isn't exactly the softest, and getting her to actually stay on a blanket is absolutely impossible. So, Justin can up with the idea to put socks on her knees. I decided to just cut up a pair of yellow tights and put them on her knees. I couldn't waist the rest of the tights, so I had fun figuring out all the ways to use tights for something other than tights!

Phoenix Sets a Record!

Well, we all know that it's hot here. The big news has been that we broke a record. The average number of days that are 110 degrees or higher per year here is 10. The previous record was 28. On Wednesday that was broken, making 29 days of 110 degrees or higher this year. How exciting!

Justin was watching Anne for just a few minutes the other day. As you can see, babies get away with a lot more when Daddy is in charge!

Crazy Move

We were worried about the long drive with Anne when we moved, we decided to just pack her in a box and throw her in the trailer. That way we wouldn't have to hear her the whole time! (For those of you who don't know, I am just kidding!) Here she is all packed up and ready to go!

A few funny things about us:

I've discovered since we moved here that you don't need to wait for the water to get hot. It's actually the opposite, you have to wait for the water to get cold!

Shari: We could put stuff in it.
Yes, we actually held this very serious conversation when we were both exhausted from moving and unpacking!

We spent about 2 hours today looking for our camera. We just had it last night, and hadn't used it since. We looked high and low including in the pantry, refrigerator, bathroom and laundry room. We had both convinced ourselves that someone had broken into our house and stolen just the camera, even though there were a lot of other things they could have taken also. I was convinced that one of our neighbors had figured out a way to get up on the balcony and come in through the sliding glass door, stolen the camera, and then gone back out the same way they came in. Well, after an exhaustive search, Justin found the camera underneath a pillow that was on top of the couch. Yes, the one place we hadn't looked yet.

Today's high temperature was 98 degrees. It was so nice to have a cool day. I never thought I'd consider 98 a cool temperature before!

Crawling?!

Our little Annie is trying to crawl! Over the last few days, so has started pushing up on her hands and knees and rocking back and forth. She tries so hard to move forward. She pushes her little nose into the ground and pushes with all her might. She usually either moves a few inches forward or backward. I think that within a few weeks, she'll figure it out and be quite a little mischief, getting into everything!

Tribute to our Spider Friend

Since we moved in, we have had a spider living in the window of our bathroom. He's outside, so we decided to let him be. During the day he would mostly just sit in the corner of the window, but at night, he would spin his web and be a lot more active. It was a lot of fun to watch him. He's been missing since early this morning, so he has either found a new home or died. I thought I'd just give him a little tribute.

We have been taking Anne swimming almost everyday since we got here. She really seems to like it. She dunks her head in the water on purpose and loves to splash. This is just a short little clip of getting into the pool.

Moving

We have officially moved. I will post pictures of our new home once I get it more organized. Right now, things are pretty chaotic.
First impressions are funny things. When we pulled up to the condo complex where we are going to live, the first two people that we saw were a bum pushing a shopping cart across the street and a dumpster diver going through the trash behind the condos. But since then, it's been really nice.

Dinner with Friends

We had the Danielson's over for dinner a few
weeks ago. Bill was Justin's friend in Spain
while he was in the Air Force. It was so much
fun to see their family again and catch up with them.

Their kids are so much fun. Jade was in the
middle of Harry Potter 7 while they were
there(personally, it's my favorite of the 7).

Bill and Justin thought that it would be funny
to get pictures of Eddie and Anne kissing.
They thought it would embarrass them when
they were older. This is as close as they got.

We were all pretty tired by the time the night was over.

Taking a Bath in the Sink

Before we moved, we took one last trip to the cabin. Anne needed a bath, so we filled up the sink. She had a fun time playing with a cup and splashing.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Saturday was my Birthday. It was a very fun day. I went to see Harry Potter with some friends. Definitely worth seeing!
I also made myself a birthday cake. It was delicious, however, I forgot to put the cream in the frosting, so it was pretty rock hard. Those that ate it were very gracious though, and insisted that it tasted good!

Possibly Our New Home

We think we may have found a home! Justin is really excited about it because it's really close to school (just a mile) so he can ride his bike. Parking at the school is really expensive ($400-$700!) so we're glad to avoid that. And after commuting 2 1/2 hours to school, this will be a welcome relief.
I like it because it has a 2 car garage (though we've learned you have to close the garage door to really make that work ;) ) and the common area for the condos is gated. While it is close to school, there doesn't seem to be a problem with parties, so that is a major plus!
One more reason Justin is really excited... they were designed by Will Bruder! (Who is that you ask? Why he is a famous architect of course!)
It's not a done deal, but it looks like this is it.
